Our resident cats/wimps love the beds in the closets more than we ever thought they would. We put the beds in there, turned on the radio, and closed them in there with a blanket blocking the bottoms of the door for the fireworks. Now they won’t leave.

My dog is drugged and hiding under my bed. It sounds like I’m in an armory that caught fire.

Drugs for the dogs are not a bad idea.

For her, anyway, I think Benadryl was probably better than the Trazodone the vet prefers. She’s still pretty anxious (for example, she really doesn’t fit under the bed but that fear-strength let her claw her way there).

I thought the storms every day for the last month were conditioning enough but nope. At least they figure pout where they like to hang.

I’ve got the odd couple of dogs (in more way than one), where the German Shepherd doesn’t care at all about fireworks, but they’re the end of the world for the lab/pitbull mix . She was given Trazedone throughout the day, and this year was probably the best 4th yet for her. In years past before we got drugs for her, she would sometimes literally start digging through walls in the house trying to find a place she f el t safe. While she wasn’t happy tonight , she actually didn’t even retreat to a closet this year (and the city’s fireworks display was being shot off only a few hundred yards from the house). She got on a bed with a fuzzy blanket (her favorite things in the world) and worried there.

I know the feeling. The city and university teamed up this year for the fireworks display in the 2nd biggest city in the state, and the launching point was the parking lot of the university golf course that is only a few hundred yards from our house. We had an absolutely great view, but quiet it wasn’t.

The older greyhound ended up sleeping in bed w ith me and was fine. The younger one would come to the bed i took out of the closet then retreat as she felt necessary. I feel like it could have been worse, but like I said, the storms the last few weeks have got them ready

The kids’ solution last year:

Kinja'd!!!

Benadryl plus a h ome-made Thundershirt and ear muffs. I love how the big dog looks miserable and the little dog looks like he’s laughing.

It should be noted that this was a failed effort. The big dog, as tough as she is, still overreacted to the sound of the fireworks. She was a big ninny until they died down after midnight.

Awww... 11/10 would pet. Is that a King Charles Spaniel or a Cocker?

King Charles. Interesting dog. Not much personality, though. He was bred to sit on your feet and keep them warm. He does exactly that. Doesn’t even like getting picked up. A lap dog he is not.

Very interesting. Wife’s family had one and it was a very interesting dog. We have other friends that love them too. I think she wanted another one but greyhounds .

I’ve never owned one, but a greyhound sounds so much more interesting. The only fun thing ours does is chase a laser pointer. He will do that for hours. If we don’t make it disappear by going under a door, he will spend another hour pacing around the room in se arch of the dot. If it goes under the office door, he will just lie in wait for it to come back out.

If you get a greyhound and want it to be interesting, get a female for sure. My male greyhound is all about chilling and the female loves to talk and gets really sassy haha.

My daughter wants either a greyhound or a whippet. Of course, she has a history of picking pets which don’t turn out the way she thought they would be.

If she wants a dog that sleeps a lot, loves food, and loves food, greyhound is perfect. There also crate trained if you get a retired from a rescue.
